Soggy Bottoms

I'm a bit slow on starting this blog since I've been here over a month already! The camera was finally dusted off, charged, and toted along with us last week so we can share pictures of my new UK home. We decided to get out of the house and check out the state of the flooding in the area. The week before, the nearby village of Datchet was completely underwater! The water levels improved by the time we went out but it was still pretty soggy. While the flooding caused both fatalities and significant destruction, I found the attention it received disproportionate to the damage caused. Compared to other natural and man-made disasters across the globe, the amount of media attention and public's call to cut foreign aid to spend more on flood relief felt inappropriate. This article really hit the nail on the head for me if you're interested!

We drove through Windsor past the castle, then stopped near Heathrow. There's a spot on a hill where the planes taking off come so close it feels like you can touch them! I can't wait to go with a blanket on a sunny day this summer and lay on our backs watching the planes overhead. Maybe with a picnic basket filled to the brim with stinky cheese and cider?! We stopped by the park, which is still incredibly green, crossed the motorway (highway!) and I found some of my old friends and fed one handfuls of grass through the fence. It was so nice to feel the sun on our faces and get some fresh air after being cooped up inside with all that rain! How are you all dealing with the winter blues? Any advice?
